JOB TITLE
Intern, Automation in Antibody Discovery
10-12 weeks
40 hours per week

RESPONSIBILITIES
Overview
The Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine department in Worcester, MA is looking for a motivated
intern who is interested in the development of innovative technologies to facilitate biologics
discovery. In our group, we are one of the first teams to produce and characterize antibodies at
AbbVie. We leverage automation to push the bounds of how fast and how many molecules we can
make.
For this role, we don’t require hands-on life science experience and are looking for someone who is
eager to explore the field and bring into the lab an engineering perspective. During the assignment,
we will teach you how to make an antibody. In parallel, we will also tailor for you an individual
engineering project that suits your interests and hones your academic training.

Key Responsibilities
 Development of an instrument component using CAD and standard assembly techniques.
 Integration of actuators and sensors for a lab instrument using microcontrollers.
 Automation and enhancement of data analysis workflows.

DESIRED MAJORS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS + SKILLS
Minimum Qualifications

 Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in biomedical-,
biological-, mechanical engineering, computer science or other related fields.
 Must be enrolled in university during the internship period.
 Expected graduation between 9/2025 and 9/2028.
Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
 Experience with CAD (Fusion 360, Solidworks), fabrication and prototyping.
 Programming of automation/microcontrollers (e.g. Arduino, C++) and for data analysis (e.g.
Python).
 Knowledge of biological principles a plus but not required.
